The Intellex II represented the next step in the evolution of Intellex droid brains, following an earlier model. It was specifically engineered for use within the standard production model of the P2-series astromech droid. Building upon a basic Intellex ship-configuration computer originally implemented by Automata Galactica in P2 prototypes, the Intellex II was a product of Industrial Automaton's initiative to commercially release the astromech droid with only slight alterations. This decision came after the company observed encouraging results from initial trial sales to the Old Republic shipping fleet. The creation of the Intellex II was driven by the need to support the droid's updated database system, which could manage data for a wider range of starships, encompassing even large capital warships. Furthermore, technicians integrated a rudimentary navigation computer program, enabling the calculation of a single hyperspace jump, given sufficient time and the necessary data.
