Iol

Iol, found within the Unknown Regions, was a planet devoid of life.

History

After crash-landing on the planet, a starship pilot stumbled upon significant ore deposits suitable for the creation of durasteel. He then tried to assert his ownership over the world, naming it in honor of a deity associated with death. However, Tangan Industries intercepted the pilot's broadcast via one of their cargo vessels and, following his rescue, promptly initiated their own mining ventures on the planet, effectively superseding his claim.

Subsequently, the establishment of three cities, each functioning as a dedicated mining settlement, occurred on the planet. Despite the overarching control of Tangan Industries, frequent disputes and even open conflicts arose among the mining crews due to competing territorial claims.

During the period of the Mandalorian Wars, a renegade Jedi, known as Revan, led a fleet of vessels that happened upon the mining world. Revan and his associates procured fuel and essential supplies from the colony's governing body in exchange for advanced technology. Although the Tangan Industries board of directors did not officially approve this exchange, they remained silent, benefiting from the acquired technological advancements.

As a result of this extensive transaction, the colonies experienced a depletion of available resources. This led to a sharp increase in the prices of internally traded goods to offset the diversion of supplies. In response, the Miners' Union was formed to challenge Tangan Industries and alleviate the widespread starvation and suffering. The Union's demands included independent administration of the colonies by the miners themselves, culminating in an attempted siege of the administrative headquarters. Despite being repelled by the administrator's security forces, direct negotiations ensued between the administrator and the rebel leader, resulting in a reduction of prices and the cessation of protests.

During the era of the Galactic Empire, the colonies once again considered declaring independence. However, Tangan Industries reached a mutually beneficial agreement with the colonial administration, implementing improvements to the miners' living conditions, which subsequently boosted productivity and morale.
