Isshaddik, a male Wookiee from Kashyyyk, his homeworld, was exiled and subsequently became a criminal. He joined the crew of the Trader's Luck, a starship, alongside his mate, Dewlannamapia. Working for the captain, Garris Shrike, Isshaddik participated in smuggling operations. He met his death during one such raid to the planet Nar Hekka in 19 BBY.
Dewlannamapia's mate, Isshaddik, was a male Wookiee and the father to several cubs. His name, when translated from the Wookiee language Shyriiwook into Galactic Basic Standard, roughly meant "dark sentinel." Around 20 BBY, he was exiled from Kashyyyk, his homeworld, because of a crime he committed.
Even though she wasn't obligated, Dewlannamapia chose to follow Isshaddik into his exile, leaving behind her family and home. They both became members of the crew of the Trader's Luck, a starship whose crew was made up of criminals and captained by a Human named Garris Shrike. Isshaddik became involved in Shrike's illegal activities, functioning as a smuggler for him. However, only a year later, he was killed during a smuggling mission to Nar Hekka, a planet located in Hutt Space. After his passing, Dewlannamapia stayed on the Trader's Luck and became friends with Han Solo, a young Corellian boy who was employed by Shrike. Around 10 BBY, Dewlannamapia gave her life to help Solo escape Shrike and pursue what he wanted to do.
The novel The Paradise Snare by A. C. Crispin, published in 1997, was the first time Isshaddik was mentioned. A translation of common Wookiee name prefixes was included in Galactic Campaign Guide, a Star Wars Roleplaying Game supplement released by Wizards of the Coast in August of 2003. Because of the complexities of Shyriiwook, each component of a Wookiee's name is translated independently. According to Galactic Campaign Guide, "Issh" signifies "black, dangerous, dark, deep," while "addik" signifies "guardian, guard, sentinel."
