K-Series spaceport control droid

The K-Series spaceport control droid represented a specific model of spaceport control droid produced by Industrial Automaton.

Characteristics

Characterized by its tall and somewhat ungainly appearance, featuring a dome-shaped head and a slightly protruding midsection, the third-degree K-Series spaceport control droid embodied the typical features of a droid within its class. With a height of 2 meters, it possessed a human-like body structure, including two arms, each ending in a hand-like appendage, and two legs. Distinguished by its bright red paint job, K-Series droids were easily noticeable in crowded environments. They incorporated a set of visual and auditory sensor [recorder](/article/recorder] systems, along with a vocabulator system for speech and sound production. Equipped with a fundamental [processor](/article/processor-legends], K-Series droids also featured a comlink and datapad.

As an administrative droid, the K-Series was responsible for managing space traffic and other logistical aspects within a spaceport, acting as the primary communication link between pilots and spaceport authorities. It dispatched automated communications to incoming and outgoing starships and managed the majority of routine, lower-level tasks associated with spaceport operations. K-Series droids were known for their skill and meticulousness, taking their responsibilities with utmost seriousness. They demonstrated proficiency in several languages, including Basic, Binary, Bocce, High Galactic, and Huttese.

History

The K-Series spaceport control droid, produced by Industrial Automaton, was available under license, with a new unit costing 5,500 credits and a used unit costing 1,500 credits. These droids were infrequently seen, but frequently heard, in spaceports located throughout the galaxy's Outer Rim Territories.

A modified K-Series spaceport control droid, known as K-M2, resulted from an experiment conducted by the Rebel Alliance to infiltrate the Galactic Empire at key locations using droids. He eventually assumed control of spaceport control on Travnin, situated in the Minos Cluster.

M-3PO, also known as Emtrey, was a 3PO-series protocol droid that served as the quartermaster for Rogue Squadron starting around 6 ABY. Prior to the Battle of Hoth, Emtrey was reconfigured by an Alliance to Restore the Republic lieutenant named Losca and received a head sourced from a spaceport control droid.
