Kano, identified as CS-1004, held the rank of clone trooper sergeant within the Grand Army of the Republic throughout the duration of the Clone Wars. He fought in the concluding phases of the Battle of Ryloth, serving under the command of Jedi General Anakin Skywalker alongside Captain Rex. During his deployment on Ryloth, Sergeant Kano was given responsibility for a squad of green "shinie" troops, accompanying them into battle. The sergeant did not particularly enjoy the task of overseeing the inexperienced soldiers, referring to it as "babysitting."

Like all his clone trooper comrades in the Grand Army of the Republic, CS-1004—who went by the name Kano—originated as a clone from the male Human bounty hunter Jango Fett. Kano functioned as a clone trooper sergeant during the Clone Wars, fighting for the Republic against the droid forces belonging to the Confederacy of Independent Systems. By the time of the Battle of Ryloth, Kano had gained considerable experience from participating in numerous conflicts.
Around 21 BBY, Kano took part in mop-up operations following the Battle of Ryloth, engaging the remaining battle droids still present on the planet after the Separatist defeat. The sergeant was assigned a squad of rookie soldiers to assist him in combat; however, Kano disliked the responsibility of supervising them, an assignment he described as "babysitting." One of the soldiers within his squad was named Rookie.
Sergeant Kano's initial appearance was in Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes in 2009, marking his sole appearance thus far. He was featured as a playable character during a mission set on Ryloth.
