Kaoln, a Force-sensitive individual, was a member of the crew aboard a YT-1300 light freighter helmed by Captain Nuendo Rash. During a mission to deliver grain to the Alliance to Restore the Republic, the ship made a stop on Tatooine. There, agents working for Jabba the Hutt awaited Rash, who was in debt to the crime lord for twenty thousand credits, in the city of Mos Eisley. After departing Mos Eisley, Captain Rash, against the wishes of First Mate Hutch and Kaoln, jettisoned the grain cargo over Jabba's Palace, despite their belief that the grain was necessary to deceive a customs inspection.
