Koboth was the original homeworld of the Kobok species. Situated within the Outer Rim Territories, it lay at the edge of the Tingel Arm, bordering the Corporate Sector.
The world of Koboth presented a severe environment, constantly bombarded by solar flares originating from its nearby star, Koba Prime. Its landmass was largely composed of six major continents, accompanied by scattered, rocky island chains located in its southern hemisphere. The southern seas were turbulent and intensely hot, as this region of the planet bore the brunt of Koba Prime's radiation.
The Kuurok Peninsula stood out as a notable geographical feature, known for being the origin of Koboks with darker complexions.
Three barren moons circled Koboth, each also ravaged by the intense radiation from the system's star.
For countless millennia, the Kobok engaged in internal conflicts on their planet, until they were eventually unified under the Koboth Union. Throughout this period, they remained isolated from the wider galaxy, even as they developed interstellar travel and expanded into neighboring star systems. With their newly established government, the Kobok achieved unity and began encountering other sentient species. While they never formally joined the Galactic Republic, they did establish trade agreements with both the Trianii Colonies and the Hiitian clans, long before the rise of the Galactic Empire. Corellians and Duros explorers pioneered the first trade routes to Koboth. Following this initial contact, access to Koboth was facilitated via the Hydian Way.
Due to their close proximity to Corporate Alliance territories, they became embroiled in territorial disputes. Renowned for their skill and martial prowess, the Kobok quickly gained a reputation for mercenary and assassin work. Around 15 BBY, the Kobok became involved in a particularly intense territorial conflict, escalating beyond previous skirmishes. This resulted in the Kobok becoming even more prepared for combat. They played a significant role in the fighting during the Mavvan Conflict, which subsequently led to the formation of the Kobothi S-Corps. Individuals who distinguished themselves in these conflicts were awarded the Koboth Insurgent Mantle. These events solidified the Kobok's reputation throughout the galaxy as highly competent soldiers.
Koboth served as the original world of the Kobok, a race of warriors. Following thousands of years marked by fragmented warfare, the Kobok were eventually governed by the unified entity known as the Koboth Union. Despite having spread to other planets within neighboring systems for centuries, Koboth remained heavily populated by the Kobok. The Koboks actively engaged in trade with the Trianii and the Hiitians.
Their history of violence and warfare, coupled with the harsh and unforgiving nature of their home planet, led the Kobok to evolve into a resilient and calculating species. After their world opened up to trade, some Koboks ventured across the galaxy, finding employment as soldiers and mercenaries. However, outside of Kobothi Space, they remained relatively uncommon. The Kobok's elite military force, known as the Kobothi S-Corps, was established less than a decade prior to the Battle of Yavin. Their primary responsibility was to safeguard Kobothi space and its interests.
