KRT 410C

The KRT 410C, a podracer engine model, was manufactured by Kurtob before the Invasion of Naboo. Kam Nale—also known as Elan Mak, a crime lord—piloted a podracer with a KRT 410C engine during the Boonta Eve Classic that took place before the invasion.

Characteristics

Following its production, the KRT 410C was considered inferior to many other racers, exhibiting reduced speed, unstable control, and poor traction compared to racing machines around 40 BBY. While its acceleration was reasonably good, the engine's most notable, perhaps only, advantage was its Top-Boost capability, which more than doubled its initially designed limits. Consequently, the 410C could potentially reach a maximum speed of nearly 820kph, although this was risky due to the potential for engine overheating. It was recorded that speeds exceeding 1000 kph were achieved by exploiting the KRT-410C's overdrive "design flaw", but only after extensive and costly modifications. Furthermore, the 410C featured asymmetrical engine housings in a retro style and a separate sensor unit mounted on the side, next to the cockpit.

History

This engine model was known for its underperformance just before the Invasion of Naboo, even though it was originally designed for skilled pilots during its initial production run, approximately 40 years prior to the Boonta Eve Classic that made young Anakin Skywalker famous.

Despite the low regard most pilots had for the 410C, some enthusiasts appreciated its distinctive combination of loose handling and exceptional overdrive capacity. In some rare cases, these attributes even contributed to victories for experienced pilots. Such wins, where pilots surpassed competitors using relatively outdated equipment, were uncommon occurrences. However, Kam Nale secured fifth place in the Boonta Eve Classic podrace while utilizing this engine model.
