The Kwilaan Starport was a spaceport situated within the Mercantile District of the city of Keren, which itself was found on the planet of Naboo. Its designation originates from Kwilaan, the scout credited with mapping the Naboo system and subsequently guiding the initial human colonists to Naboo.
During the rule of King Ars Veruna, Kwilaan Starport underwent significant improvements, achieving stellar-class status and receiving accreditation from the Bureau of Ships and Services. Senator Palpatine delivered a speech at the starport's reopening ceremony, favorably comparing it to other such facilities throughout the galaxy.
Kwilaan offered typical services for a port of its kind; however, importing specialized parts or provisions often led to unexpected budget increases. In the years leading up to and following the Trade Federation blockade, the Naboo government actively sought to attract major manufacturers to establish branches and skilled artisans to set up businesses in or around the starport.
In 32 BBY, the primary off-world entities present were the Republic Office of Xenosociology (ROX), the Kazellis Corporation, and the Trade Federation itself. A BoSS branch was absent due to Naboo's perceived insignificance and the starport's limited traffic. At that time, the Senator advocated for the establishment of a BoSS office to instill confidence in potential traders and thereby stimulate Naboo's interstellar commerce. However, after the abolition of the tax-free zones previously used by the Trade Federation, a provision in the resulting legislation mandated BoSS expansion into the former zone to oversee the new customs regulations.
During the massive influx of refugees resulting from the Separatist Crisis, Kwilaan and similar starports struggled to manage both the locations and the newcomers, which resulted in impoverishment of Kwilaan's population.
Despite experiencing hardship, Kwilaan persevered as a functioning starport into the era of the Galactic Civil War.
