Laboi II

Laboi II, a minor planet situated within the Slice, served as the native world for the Laboi species. A unique characteristic of this planet was its exceptionally slow, retrograde rotation, causing its solar day to extend for 4,040 standard hours – a mere ten hours less than its orbital period. This resulted in extreme temperature variations; the hemisphere facing its parent sun, the red giant Er'Dox Kaan, experienced temperatures high enough to induce rock melting. Conversely, the opposing hemisphere was subjected to intense freezing conditions. These significant temperature differences generated powerful winds, which acted to redistribute heat between the illuminated and dark sides, thus mitigating the most severe temperature fluctuations. The fauna of Laboi II were compelled to evolve adaptations to endure these extreme temperature fluctuations. The absence of soil formation, due to the repeated melting and freezing of the surface, precluded the existence of flora. Instead, a significant portion of the planet's night hemisphere was characterized by mineral forests, which arose from the solidification of molten rock pools.
