The LD-1 target blaster rifle from Merr-Sonn (also known as a targeting blaster rifle) was officially categorized as a sporting blaster rifle; however, its power level was comparable to that of a military-grade blaster rifle, such as the E-11. This near-military grade power was by design, as the aim of the project was to develop a weapon that could inflict damage similar to a blaster rifle, but without the associated legal limitations.
Featuring a long barrel, the LD-1 proved to be effective as a sniper rifle, and like similar weapons, it could be broken down and stored in a carrying case. Furthermore, the weapon incorporated a built-in macroscope in addition to autosteady gyro-gimbals that significantly improved stability and aiming.
Whispers circulated about a variant of the weapon, known as the LD-1a, produced in small quantities for the Imperial Security Bureau. This variant supposedly borrowed design elements from the SoroSuub X-45 sniper rifle, specifically its overfocused beam technology.
