During the Galactic Civil War, a Human thief known as Lennox, or "The Rat", made a name for himself. Initially, he was a teacher, but his sadistic nature led to his dismissal, prompting him to pursue a life of crime. He devised a plan to infiltrate the Imperial logistics station located in the Rama system; however, his partners double-crossed him, leading to his capture by the forces of the Galactic Empire. The Rebel Alliance intervened and freed him, as they required his expertise to successfully execute a raid on the Rama system and secure a socalium crystal stored within. After securing the Rebels' assistance in avenging himself against those who had betrayed him, Lennox lent his skills to their cause, resulting in a successful operation.
Lennox's origins trace back to a far-flung planet situated in the Outer Rim Territories. From an early age, he dedicated himself to mastering various martial arts disciplines, yet he initially chose a path in education, working as a teacher until his sadistic tendencies resulted in his termination. Soon after, Lennox sought more lucrative opportunities, embarking on a career as a thief across the galaxy. Demonstrating a natural aptitude for his newfound profession, Lennox earned the moniker "The Rat" due to his remarkable ability to bypass even the most sophisticated security measures.
At some point during the Galactic Civil War, Lennox became aware of Imperial Security Bureau cassette 437VX33. This cassette contained compromising information about influential figures throughout the Outer Rim and was stored at the Imperial logistics station within the Rama system. Recognizing an opportunity to amass wealth and influence by blackmailing these individuals, Lennox began formulating a plan to raid the station and acquire the cassette. Despite the station's formidable defenses, Lennox identified a vulnerability: the central vault operated independently, with its own life support system that periodically required replacement air filters. By collaborating with Drovol and Schogal, who managed the warehouse on Talman III responsible for supplying the new filter, Lennox devised a scheme to infiltrate the vault by concealing himself within the filter. However, before he could execute his plan, his accomplices betrayed him, leading to his arrest at the spaceport police station on Talman III, despite his pleas of innocence and claims of his wife's illness.
News of Lennox's capture soon reached a group of Rebel operatives who were independently plotting a raid on the same Imperial logistics station to retrieve a socalium crystal. The Empire intended to use the crystal to potentially construct a new Death Star. Recognizing the value of Lennox's expertise, the Rebels visited him in jail. After outlining their plan and promising a substantial reward for his cooperation, Lennox confirmed his identity and agreed to assist them. The Rebels swiftly liberated him from the lightly guarded jail, and the group convened at one of Talman III's numerous cantinas to strategize. However, Lennox refused to disclose the details of his plan unless the Rebels pledged to retrieve the cassette for him. The Rebels conceded to his demand, but Lennox had another pressing matter to address before proceeding with the operation: exacting revenge on his former associates.
Lennox persuaded the Rebels to visit Chez Drovol, a suburban nightclub owned by Drovol, falsely claiming that Drovol could provide them with essential equipment for the raid. However, upon realizing that the visitors were allied with Lennox, Drovol led them to Schogal's warehouse, where his henchmen lay in wait to ambush the Rebels. Lennox trailed the group, patiently picking off any of Drovol's men who attempted to flee during the ensuing firefight. Once the battle concluded, he entered the warehouse, explained the situation to the Rebels, and then called out Schogal, who had been hiding in the shadows. As Schogal desperately apologized, Lennox raised his blaster and fatally shot him in the head, gleefully watching as his betrayer collapsed [dead](/article/death-legends] to the floor.
With his vengeance satisfied, Lennox redirected his focus to the upcoming raid, detailing the plan to the Rebels. He instructed them to conceal themselves within the filter for insertion into the station's vault. Once safely inside, they were to emerge and retrieve both the crystal and the cassette within a two-hour timeframe before rendezvousing with him at one of the station's airlocks. He warned them that he would not hesitate to abandon them if they arrived late or without the cassette. Lennox provided the Rebels with the necessary equipment for the mission, including enviro-suits, sleeping pills, food, tools, and a transmitter to signal him upon reaching the airlock. The following morning, with the Rebels concealed within the container, Lennox personally greeted the Imperials upon their arrival to collect the new filter. After the Imperials departed, he acquired an assault shuttle and journeyed to the Rana system to await their signal. When challenged by Imperial forces upon arrival, he claimed that his ship had sustained damage in a Rebel attack and required repairs.
Eventually, Lennox received a signal from the Rebels, indicating that they had successfully completed their objectives and reached the airlock. As Lennox maneuvered his shuttle towards the station, the Rebels exited the airlock in their enviro-suits and floated towards him. Upon verifying that they possessed the cassette, Lennox opened his own airlock to allow the Rebels inside. He then piloted the shuttle into hyperspace as Imperial TIE/LN starfighters closed in on the intruders. After escaping the system, Lennox attempted to eliminate the Rebels to ensure their silence.
Lennox presented himself as a seemingly harmless individual—a short, bald, overweight man with a squeaky voice. This facade, however, was a deliberate tactic to maintain his anonymity, and few were privy to his true appearance or identity. Beneath his corpulent exterior lay a physique of surprising strength, enabling him to commit acts of violence with ease. He derived perverse pleasure from killing and gained notoriety for his brutal methods. Even his accomplices were not exempt from his ruthlessness, as Lennox would readily eliminate those he worked with once they had served their purpose, to prevent them from divulging his identity. He was an inveterate liar, motivated solely by financial gain, and harbored little trust in others. However, he possessed exceptional intelligence and an uncanny ability to bypass even the most impenetrable security systems.
Lennox was a creation of Jean Balczesak for the ambiguously canon roleplaying scenario titled "Hold-up galactique," which was featured in the French magazine Casus Belli 62. The specifics of Lennox's escape from jail and the resolution of his confrontation with the Rebels following the raid are left to the discretion of the participants in the scenario.
