Lilas Dinhint served as the overseer of the Museum of Tatooine, situated in the capital city of Bestine, during the era of the Galactic Civil War.
During his tenure as the museum's curator, Lilas Dinhint crossed paths with a wandering spacer. In need of assistance, Lilas shared with the spacer the tale of a thief who had pilfered a Tusken Raider garment from the museum's collection. He charged the spacer with the mission of locating the culprit, a Jawa, and returning the robe to Lilas. The spacer was successful in this endeavor, though it required the Jawa's death. Despite this, Lilas was relieved, and voiced his hope that the Empire might heed his plea for a larger budget to combat theft.
Regrettably for him, the illicit activity seemingly persisted. The armor belonging to Melnea Arnthout, one of Tatooine's pioneering miners, had been taken. The spacer was once again dispatched to apprehend the thief, identified as Klinn Innala. The spacer succeeded in eliminating Klinn and returning Arnthout's armor to Lilas. However, yet another artifact vanished from the museum's holdings: a mineral scanner tracing back to one of the original settlements on Tatooine. The spacer received the task of finding the thief, named Ting'ral Trin. According to Lilas, Ting'ral had close ties to the museum's administration, similar to the previous two individuals. The spacer terminated Ting'ral and his associates, bringing the historic survey instrument back to Lilas. By this point, Lilas appeared suspiciously fixated on advocating for a budget increase. In a revealing slip, Lilas mentioned that another artifact was sold. He quickly corrected himself, claiming the artifact had been stolen from the museum. It became increasingly apparent that Lilas was falsely accusing individuals of theft to secure a larger budget, though the spacer seemed indifferent. The spacer was then tasked with retrieving a preserved piece of meat. Lilas claimed this meat was a remnant from the initial feast when the Hutts first arrived on Tatooine, during which they carried out a mass slaughter followed by a celebratory feast. The meat had mummified, allowing it to survive for centuries.
The spacer agreed to find the meat, which was in the possession of Sarvik Frey'nra. As the spacer approached Sarvik, Sarvik appeared to want to tell the spacer something. However, before he could finish, he was killed. The spacer took the dried bantha meat from Sarvik's body. After the meat was returned, Lilas stated that artifact theft was unacceptable. He hoped the Imperial budget committee would consider his concerns at their next meeting. For the moment, Lilas had no further tasks for the spacer. No more alleged thieves emerged, and the museum continued to operate without incident.
Whether the budget committee approved additional funding for the museum remains uncertain, but the museum experienced significant growth shortly after the spacer's involvement. Lilas abandoned his dubious practices and focused on the museum's newfound emphasis on art. The museum's rooms were renovated with more artifacts, suggesting economic progress. Subsequently, Lilas the curator engaged with numerous spacers who participated in voting on various art forms. Artists
Despite Lilas's questionable methods during his time as curator, the museum may have ultimately benefited from them.
Lilas Dinhint functioned as a non-player character (NPC) within the 2003 MMORPG Star Wars Galaxies. Originally, Lilas Dinhint provided players with a brief series of quests centered around recovering artifacts from supposed thieves. As the quests progressed, it became increasingly clear that Lilas was selling the artifacts to various individuals and then falsely accusing them of theft to secure a larger budget for the museum.
However, the developers eventually removed these quests from the game. The museum's interior underwent some changes, and Lilas's role as curator was significantly altered. Instead of offering the original quest to players, Lilas now instructed players to visit various artists across Tatooine and vote for their favorite. The artist with the most votes would have one of their paintings displayed in the museum. Players could then purchase a schematic for the painting from Lilas and mass-produce it for other players to acquire.
