The Lucky Despot once transported a consignment of M-HYD hydromech droids to the world of Tatooine. The captain intended to sell these droids to moisture farmers located in the Jundland Wastes. The vessel was stranded in Mos Eisley after the captain lost all of his available funds in a devastating legal battle that arose from a dispute with unhappy M-HYD clients.

Subsequently, the Lucky Despot was transformed into a stationary hotel, as it was no longer airworthy. A group of individuals from off-world acquired the derelict vessel, towed it to a different location, partially buried it in the ground, and remodeled its interior. The hotel's grand opening occurred shortly before Boonta's Eve. It was profitable for ten years, but ultimately went bankrupt and closed as podracing declined during the Clone Wars, and with the increase in patronage from criminal elements.

Shortly after the New Order came to power, Valarian purchased the hotel, but soon realized that her new business was unable to generate any profit. Bureaucratic obstacles and acts of vandalism stood in the way of success. She determined that Jabba the Hutt was the source of her troubles, and offered him a small share of the hotel. An agreement was made, and the Whiphid consented to limit her unlawful actions outside of Mos Eisley. In exchange for payment, he provided Lady Valarian with advance warning of Imperial gambling raids.

The Lucky Despot served as the location for the wedding celebration of Valarian and her spouse, D'Wopp. Numerous Mos Eisley inhabitants were present, including Wuher and Labria, with musical entertainment provided by the Modal Nodes. A physical altercation erupted between the newlyweds, and Imperial stormtroopers arrived, presumably having been informed by Jabba, to shut down an illegal gambling operation.

Following the Battle of Yavin, the Devaronian scrap merchant Sneg was employed at the Lucky Despot, purchasing all forms of used weaponry for the use of the Valarian gang. The Rodian horticulturalist Kardeer also worked at the establishment.
