The Luxury-class sail barge, manufactured by Ubrikkian Industries during the Galactic Empire era, was a sizable sail barge that utilized repulsorlift technology.
Characteristics
The Luxury-class sail barge could reach a maximum speed of 100 kilometers per hour when traversing relatively even surfaces, such as water or sand. Alternatively, it could achieve a speed of 30 kilometers per hour using only its expansive sails for movement. The primary means of propulsion was typically a repulsorlift engine comprised of three chambers. Two decorative steering vanes located at the rear of the craft enabled it to maneuver. The entire ship received power from a collection of batteries and power cells positioned at the front.
Operating the vessel required a crew of 26 individuals, and it had the capacity to accommodate up to 500 passengers and 2,000 metric tons of cargo. An air conditioning system was included to maintain a comfortable temperature inside.
History
Sail barges were a frequent choice among Hutt crime lords, as these vessels allowed them to journey in luxury alongside their entourages. Jabba Desilijic Tiure possessed a modified and weaponized version of the Ubrikkian barge, called Khetanna. During the Battle of the Great Pit of Carkoon on Tatooine, this ship was destroyed by its own blaster cannon, which was fired by Luke Skywalker while rescuing Han Solo.
