The M-3PO standard military protocol unit, more commonly referred to as the M-3PO military protocol droid, represented a specialized adaptation of Cybot Galactica's widely used 3PO-series protocol droid, tailored specifically for military roles. It was typical to observe these droids at planetary garrisons and starfighter installations.
M-3PO military protocol droids, manufactured by Cybot Galactica, featured a black-colored iteration of the typical 3PO-series humanoid chassis. Their sensor-rich, clamshell-style heads were repurposed from the out-of-production KW traffic controller.
Notwithstanding their "military" classification, M-3PO units were not intended to function as battle droids. Instead, they served as administrative coordinators, pre-loaded with the protocols and guidelines of more than six million military and paramilitary groups. M-3POs excelled in tasks such as equipment procurement, barracks assignments, duty schedule creation, and personnel record maintenance. These units were known for their meticulousness and dedication to adhering to established procedures via the "correct channels".
