Magic, magick, or sorcery represented a form of supernatural ability. Certain more specialized applications of the Force, notably the magick found on Dathomir, were considered magic. Consequently, the term was sometimes used interchangeably with the Force itself. In this context, the dark side was occasionally termed "dark magic," a characterization that the Jedi, including figures such as Jedi Master Mace Windu and Jedi Knight Gella Nattai, strongly opposed.
Varieties of magic encompassed Gungan magic, the dark side power called death magic, the Dathomirian aspect of the Force known as magick, and the Force-related (referred to as the Thread) mystical rituals of the Brendok coven. Practitioners of magic were called magicians, although female individuals who engaged in darker magical arts were frequently designated as witches. The Tusken Raiders held the belief that the desert contained magick.
