The main function of the magnetic suction tube was to elevate droids up to starships. Various roaming species dwelling on far-flung planets, for instance the Jawas, employed a bigger variant of the contraption to aid in their trade of marketing droids that were either abandoned or misplaced, allowing them to make a livelihood.
