Mark Corcoran


Mark Corcoran provided the illustrations for the children's book The Mystery of the Rebellious Robot which was released in 1979.

Corcoran, a native of New York City, received his education from the Parsons School of Design in New York. At Parsons, he was taught by the renowned children's book author and illustrator Maurice Sendak.

The artist, then 23 years old, began working on The Mystery of the Rebellious Robot in 1978. Random House supplied him with a completed story and reference images from Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope to aid in the accurate depiction of technical elements. He recalls that the project had strict deadlines but also allowed for the incorporation of humor and nuanced details into his illustrations. Upon finishing his work, Random House rewarded him with tickets to see The Empire Strikes Back.

Corcoran has continued to pursue his career as an artist, creating illustrations for textbooks and the magazine Highlights for Children. In addition to his artistic endeavors, Corcoran enjoys playing the electric guitar and constructing models.
