Michael Carter, who was brought into this world on June 29, 1947, is the actor who portrayed Bib Fortuna in the film Return of the Jedi.
Originally from Scotland, Carter is a film and television actor; his initial film role was in the 1981 movie, An American Werewolf in London. He was born in Dumfries, Scotland, UK, and received his training at the Royal Academy Dramatic Arts. His debut on UK television was in 1980, with an appearance on Agatha Christie's Partners in Crime.
The transformation of Carter into Bib Fortuna is shown here. After casting director Mary Selway witnessed his performance in The Streets of London on stage in 1981, he was offered the part of Bib Fortuna. The initial process of transforming him into the Twi'lek majordomo required more than eight hours spent in the makeup chair. By the conclusion of his five weeks of filming, makeup artist Nick Dudman had managed to reduce the time needed to just under an hour. Removing the makeup took an additional 25 minutes.
