The Midlis constituted a specific social stratum within the Quesoth, who were sentient insectoid species inhabiting the planet known as Quethold. Their intellectual capacity was less than that of the Quesoth Circlings; however, it significantly surpassed the intelligence of the Quesoth Soldiers and Workers, and they could also use simple tools. The main responsibility of the Midlis was the supervision of Quesoth Workers, and the most prestigious role a Midli could achieve was that of bowlcarrier for the Quesoth Queen.
