Mirthen, a Quarren male pirate, served as the second officer under captain [Jayhawk] (/article/jayhawk) aboard the light freighter known as the Martinette.
His addiction to the narcotic substance Waste-it was well known, and he typically carried two sticks of it, in addition to his comlink and a blaster that he rarely put to good use. Despite this, he possessed considerable skill in unarmed combat, starship gunnery, and surviving in aquatic environments. However, these skills were not the reason for his promotion by Jayhawk; rather, it was Mirthen's lack of ambition and the certainty that he would not plot to usurp Jayhawk's position.
On 1 ABY, Mirthen was present on the Martinette when Jayhawk gave the order to launch an assault on the luxury yacht Long Shot.
