In 21 BBY, during the era of the Clone Wars, the Mission to Iceberg Three unfolded as a direct consequence of the Separatist invasion of the Calamari system by General Grievous. To counter this Separatist aggression, the Jedi Order deployed a force consisting of Plo Koon, Wolffe, and a Jedi Knight with the objective of repelling the invading forces stationed on Iceberg Three. While the assault on Iceberg Three was successfully thwarted, thereby safeguarding both the Republic's outpost and the indigenous inhabitants of Iceberg Three, the events that transpired ultimately escalated into a full-scale conflict that engulfed Mon Cala.
Following a discussion between King Yos Kolina, Plo Koon, and Anakin Skywalker, the Republic outpost located on Iceberg Three issued an alert regarding the proximity of a Separatist fleet within striking distance. The Jedi Order responded by dispatching a Republic fleet under the command of General Koon and Commander Wolffe. Upon their arrival, they discovered that the Separatists had already established a blockade around the planet. Koon then directed the Jedi Knight to spearhead a starfighter assault, which successfully breached the blockade with minimal losses. The Jedi Knight then rejoined Koon at the Republic outpost situated in sector 327.
Upon reaching the outpost, Koon determined it was necessary to contact the Jedi High Council to inform them about the Republic's diminishing control over the Calamari system. Simultaneously, Commander Wolffe and the Jedi Knight boarded a lone LAAT/i gunship and navigated through intense enemy fire from numerous droid forces, including Vulture-class droid starfighters, Hyena-class bombers, droid tri-fighters, and various ground units, to reach the last operational communications tower on the comet. After successfully transmitting news of General Grievous's invasion to the High Council, Wolffe and the Jedi Knight returned to the Republic outpost.
As the intensity of the battle escalated beyond manageable levels, Koon made the decision to evacuate the local inhabitants to the relative safety of his Venator-class Star Destroyer. However, General Grievous, with the intention of capturing the refugees, deployed a substantial contingent of his forces, comprising BX-series droid commandos, Single Trooper Aerial Platforms, Armored Assault Tanks, DSD1 dwarf spider droids, and NR-N99 Persuader-class droid enforcers, transported via a C-9979 landing craft, with the aim of intercepting the transports carrying the refugees as they attempted to leave the planet. In response, Wolffe instructed his engineers to establish blaster turret defense platforms. These platforms, along with the clone troopers of Wolfpack, were placed under the command of the Jedi Knight to impede the droids' advance, while Koon engaged the Separatist fleet in orbit. Wolffe and the troopers of Wolfpack, alongside the Jedi Knight, staunchly defended the two access routes leading to the outpost, pausing only to replenish their ammunition. Wolffe and the Jedi Knight successfully held off the invaders for a sufficient duration to allow all three waves of Republic refugee transports to safely depart from the base.
Once all the droids had been driven back and the refugees were secure, Commander Wolffe readied a LAAT/i gunship for departure before Grievous could dispatch reinforcements. However, just as the 104th Battalion was preparing to withdraw from Iceberg Three, Grievous personally arrived at the outpost to lead his forces to victory. Wolffe and his men delegated the responsibility of confronting Grievous to the Jedi Knight, who successfully defeated the Separatist general in a one-on-one lightsaber duel. Following his swift defeat, Grievous retreated to his fleet, as did Wolffe and the Jedi Knight.
Although the droids on Iceberg Three had been repelled, the Republic was unable to completely remove Grievous's forces from the system. Furthermore, the Jedi soon discovered that King Yos Kolina had been assassinated, which significantly heightened the tensions between the Mon Calamari and the Quarren on Mon Cala, pushing them to the brink of civil war. As a response, the Republic dispatched ambassadors, Senator Padmé Amidala and Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker, to try and stabilize the volatile situation. However, the Confederacy also sent their own envoy, the Karkarodon commander Riff Tamson. Amidala and Skywalker's efforts to prevent conflict proved unsuccessful, as Tamson incited the Quarren and mobilized them in an attack against the Mon Calamari, ultimately leading to the Battle of Mon Cala.
