Model 88-series administration droid

The Model 88-series administration droid is a type of droid that handled administrative tasks. It saw widespread use across the galaxy in the time leading up to the Clone Wars.

Characteristics

This droid model, the 88-series, was designed as a basic, two-legged (bipedal) unit. Its physical form was characterized by its height and slender build, featuring elongated arms and legs. These droids were engineered for light to medium workloads within office environments or light industrial settings. Their primary strengths lay in accounting and analytical tasks, making them highly sought after by institutions in the banking and financial sectors. When new, they had a price tag of 15,000 credits.

Their proficiency in mathematical calculations also led to their employment by gamblers looking for an edge through cheating.

The 88-series limb was connected to the main body using a combination of wiring and tubing that carried hydraulic fluid. Movement was achieved through roto-actuators, along with a fine-tunable wrist relay.

History

Some Model 88 droids were manufactured as early as 195 BBY.

The Model 88-series was conceived by the Tiss'shar as a droid designed for clerical and administrative duties, with its production beginning several decades prior to the outbreak of the Clone Wars. The InterGalactic Banking Clan acquired the Uhr-Vah-Vo company after being impressed with the droid's capabilities. The IGBC initially deployed these droids throughout their facilities. However, they were later replaced and subsequently sold at significantly reduced prices to external banks and other companies.

The true motive behind this action was revealed at the conclusion of the Clone Wars. All of these droids deactivated, revealing their prior use in espionage activities. As a result, finding intact 88-series droids after the Clone Wars was uncommon, as people distrusted them and opted to scrap them as a precaution.

One notable 88-series droid that remained active even after the Battle of Endor was 8t88. This particular unit was a notorious, deranged droid who had gone rogue and established himself as an information broker. He harbored a strong dislike for biological beings and also held a disregard for other droids. He kept one of his "brothers," another 88 unit, solely for the purpose of cannibalizing it for spare parts.
