Biography

An elderly Human male, Morrax Nabin, served the Galactic Empire as a governor in the years after the [Clone Wars](/article/clone_wars-legends]. He enjoyed playing holochess and occasionally played against the Emperor himself, Palpatine. In approximately 17 BBY, Nabin was one of over a hundred elite galactic figures invited to Alderaan for the inaugural voyage of the luxurious hovertrain, the Gem of Alderaan. Nabin was present at a grand opening celebration at a hoverstation in the city of Aldera and rode the train as it began its six hour journey. He was accompanied by an elite team of stormtrooper bodyguards who stayed with him at all times during the trip.

Hoping to find a game, Nabin sat down at a holochess table in the train's lounge. While waiting, he enjoyed Alderaanian brandy and spoke with the Sullustan executive Dien Suub and other guests on topics from history to politics and finance. Eventually, he was challenged to holochess by an Alderaanian Resistance agent posing as an aide to Senator Bail Organa. Nabin lost the game and thought well of his opponent. He also visited the train's restaurant and attended a banquet, enjoying fine dining. While eating, he discussed the quality of the food with the rebel agents.

The Gem of Alderaan was attacked by Trandoshan mercenaries who were trying to capture Bail Organa, mistakenly believing he was on the train. Nabin sustained minor injuries and sought safety in the casino car, where his stormtroopers, along with the Alderaanian Resistance, fought off several Trandoshan attackers and an SD-6 "Hulk" infantry droid. The mercenaries were forced out of the casino, and Nabin, convinced by the agents' claims to be Organa's aides, temporarily gave command of his stormtroopers to them. The rebels and stormtroopers then drove the Trandoshans from the rest of the train.

Personality and traits

Nabin had graying hair, brown eyes, and a moustache. He was an introvert who loved holochess, often playing multiple Imperial colleagues remotely, sharing his moves over weeks. He felt intimidated if his holochess opponent made moves too quickly. During the Trandoshan attack on the Gem of Alderaan, Nabin was shaken and wanted his stormtroopers to stay close to protect him.

Behind the scenes

Morrax Nabin appeared in The Gem of Alderaan, a Star Wars Legends roleplaying module by Gary M. Sarli, published on Wizards.com on February 5 2009 as the eighth adventure in Wizards of the Coasts' Dawn of Defiance campaign.

In the adventure, players roleplay as Alderaanian Resistance agents infiltrating the Gem of Alderaan to gain favor with Nabin and other important guests, hoping to attract the attention of the event's patron, Lady Alya Aldrete. Players can improve Nabin's opinion of them by defeating him at holochess and engaging in refined conversation in the dining car. After the Trandoshan attack, players try to convince Nabin to let them command his stormtroopers. If successful, Nabin releases his guards to assist the rebels. Alternatively, Nabin may refuse to release his bodyguards but share weapons and equipment, or refuse to aid the player characters at all, retreating to the nightclub Decadence with his stormtroopers.
