Morvaks were strange beings, resembling enormous crustaceans spanning several meters. Their unique biology allowed them to derive nourishment from rocks and stones, making them a peculiar form of life. Notably, they didn't need typical habitable conditions like gravity or atmosphere, enabling their survival in places such as asteroid belts. Their sole necessity was a plentiful supply of food. If food was scarce, they'd enter a dormant state, waiting for new sources to emerge, sometimes for many years.
Their bodies were encased in a robust exoskeleton, providing protection from damage. They moved using two sets of legs, and their clawed appendages allowed them to handle food, placing it into their tentacle-filled mouths. They could secrete a potent acidic substance, used to dissolve rocks and stones into a more easily digestible form. The mouth tentacles also served as sensory organs, giving the Morvak information about the type of material it was tunneling through.
Despite their fierce appearance, they were actually social creatures, cooperating in groups to defend against predators or to find new mineral deposits. The question of their origin remained unanswered: were they a species that evolved on a planet and then adapted to space, or did they evolve in the vacuum of space itself? Consequently, their home planet was never located.
