N'won Raines, also known as "Big Shadow", was a cyborg pilot of exceptional skill who fought for the Confederacy of Independent Systems; he was identified as male. Cybernetic replacements were extensive throughout his body, encompassing his arms, neck, chest, and even his face. During the Clone Wars, his craft was destroyed above the planet Jabiim, resulting in his capture. Both Plo Koon, a Jedi Master, and Anakin Skywalker, a Jedi Knight, each claimed responsibility for his downing. Following this, he was incarcerated within The Prism, a facility designed to hold individuals considered a severe threat by the Jedi Order.
Following the establishment of the Galactic Empire and the subsequent Gentis coup, Darth Vader, the Dark Lord of the Sith, accompanied by Moff Trachta and Lieutenant Laurita Tohm, journeyed to the Prism. Their objective was to secure a refuge where they could tend to the critically injured Emperor Palpatine. Due to a lack of trust in anyone within the Empire, Raines was freed and made a participant in a brutal test orchestrated by Vader. This test aimed to identify prisoners worthy of joining the New Order. The ensuing battle involved 207 prisoners and was characterized by extreme violence, quickly reducing the number of survivors to just thirty-three. Vader and Trachta then declared these survivors Imperials, and the group prepared to depart.
Despite sustaining grievous injuries that left his body broken, Raines desperately reached out to Lieutenant Tohm, pleading for assistance. Tohm brought Raines's condition to Vader's attention, hoping to offer aid to the injured cyborg. However, Vader displayed no compassion. He instructed Tohm to kill Raines. Tohm positioned his blaster against Raines's head, as the cyborg weakly attempted to prevent him. Vader, however, directed Tohm to conserve ammunition and instead provided him with a metal pipe. Tohm apologized to Raines, and as Raines made a final, futile attempt to reach out, Tohm bludgeoned the cyborg to death.
