Nano-star

The nano-star represented an unusual form of droid that resided within the oceans of Mon Calamari.

Attributes

While the nano-stars were obviously man-made, the function of their waterproofed microcircuitry remained unknown. Each nano-star had a flat, pentagonal shape, measuring half a meter across. Metallic tentacles, five from each of the star's five points, extended outward, yet they weren't used for locomotion. Instead, the nano-stars navigated the water using numerous flexible screws.

It seemed that nano-stars didn't require sustenance. Their defense mechanism involved emitting an electrical discharge into the water when threatened. It was hypothesized that nano-stars could reproduce, although this was never observed. Nevertheless, the Mon Calamari oceans were thought to contain several million nano-stars.

Background

The initial sighting of a nano-star occurred in the waters surrounding Foamwander City, shortly after a massive metallic orb descended from the heavens, released something into the sea, and then disappeared. Shortly after this event, fishermen caught the first nano-star in their nets. The origin of the unidentified flying object remained a mystery, leaving experts puzzled.

These nano-stars were immature forms of the Silentium; the description of the metallic sphere matched that of the Silentium, and the nano-stars themselves bore a resemblance to miniature Vuffi Raa.

Production Notes

Dan Wallace, in his blog post for The New Essential Guide to Droids, verified that the nano-stars were "embryonic versions of Vuffi's species."
