Nas Ghent, originating as a male Human, rose to prominence as a skilled starfighter pilot within the Imperial Navy. His early allegiance was with the Confederacy of Independent Systems fleet during the era of the Clone Wars.

During the Battle of Coruscant, Ghent served with distinction in the Confederacy of Independent Systems fleet, earning recognition as a celebrated figure. Following the conclusion of the war, he transitioned into smuggling, undertaking perilous voyages through restricted zones established by the Galactic Empire aboard his vessel, the Rhodi's Silence. His motivations stemmed from a desire to grapple with past regrets and recapture the exhilarating sensations experienced during his service with the Separatists in his younger days.
On one such illicit journey, Darth Vader intercepted and disabled his ship. Ghent, anticipating his demise, resigned himself to his fate. However, Vader refrained from delivering the killing blow, acknowledging Ghent's exceptional piloting abilities. Vader asserted that Ghent was squandering his talent on smuggling and personally enlisted him to assemble an elite Imperial TIE Fighter unit known as Black Eight Squadron. Stationed aboard the Imperial-class Star Destroyer Crucible, the flagship of an Outer Rim Moff, Ghent encountered friction with Commander Dorin Millavec, an ambitious deck officer. Millavec's aspirations for advancement into Lower Command from his captaincy of the Crucible were disrupted by Darth Vader's intervention. Vader tasked Ghent with identifying seven individuals possessing unconventional problem-solving skills for assignment to the Crucible, even authorizing Millavec to recruit them from Imperial prisons if deemed necessary. Once aboard, Ghent would oversee all aspects of their flight training and operations, reporting exclusively to Millavec, who in turn would report only to Vader. Millavec resented Vader's extension of his tenure aboard the Crucible, but Vader firmly informed Millavec that he would remain until personally satisfied with Ghent's squadron. Vader also cautioned Millavec against challenging his authority, warning of potential reassignment to a remote Outer Rim listening post, which would effectively end his Imperial career, or even facing the Emperor's wrath.
Meanwhile, Ghent prepared for his role as squadron commander by undergoing medical evaluations, receiving a buzzcut, and being issued the uniform of an Imperial Sub-Lieutenant.
A disgruntled Millavec plotted to eliminate the "upstart" by orchestrating his demise in a staged accident. During Ghent's initial familiarization flight, he was to be provided with a dilapidated TIE fighter and ambushed by his wingmen, who would falsely identify him as a rebel infiltrator. However, despite the inferior condition of his craft, Ghent managed to eliminate his two assailants and crash-land in the landing bay, much to the astonishment of the Crucible's crew. An infuriated Ghent confronted Millavec, demanding a direct confrontation rather than resorting to cowardly tactics. Dorin Millavec coolly responded that the attack was a test from Darth Vader to assess his qualifications as a squad leader, which Ghent had supposedly passed with flying colors. Ghent, however, remained unconvinced.
Subsequently, Millavec confided in his second-in-command his intention to orchestrate another assassination attempt on Ghent, this time utilizing seven released prisoners known for their murderous tendencies. The XO expressed concern that Ghent might suspect Vader's involvement, but Millavec confidently asserted that he had accounted for all possibilities, anticipating that the trainees would eliminate Ghent, allowing Vader to disregard his plans due to his fixation on locating the Rebel pilot who destroyed the Death Star.
This treacherous scheme, however, served only to reignite Ghent's fighting spirit, prompting him to silently pledge to transform the Black Eight squadron into the Empire's most formidable unit and to exact revenge on Millavec.
The narrative of Ghent concluded on an unresolved note, as the squadron's formation was never fully depicted. Nevertheless, Jeremy Barlow suggested the possibility of continuing the storyline in a future Rebellion arc, hinting that BoShek may be among the pilots recruited by Ghent into the Black Eight Squadron.
