The Natori Shock Troops functioned as a mercenary group that maintained an alliance with the Natori Association. Typically, individuals who completed the Natori Association's training courses would offset the expenses of their education by undertaking a service period with the Natori Shock Troops. In contrast, those who directly funded their training were assigned to different units.
