Needles was a male being and a comrade of Han Solo. Solo claimed Needles was the most skilled street racer on Corellia. Sometime prior to 10 BBY, Needles tragically died when a risky driving stunt went wrong. During their escape from the Galactic Empire within the Maw Cluster, Solo and his Wookiee companion Chewbacca managed to execute the same maneuver that Needles had tried.
Needles was initially referenced in the 2018 Star Wars Anthology movie, Solo: A Star Wars Story. Jon Kasdan, the co-writer of the film, disclosed on his Twitter profile that Needles' moniker pays homage to Douglas J. Needles (played by Obi-Wan Kenobi actor Flea), a character featured in the second and third movies of the Back to the Future trilogy.
