Neek

Neeks were herbivorous reptiles, native to the planet of Ambria, and typically stood around thirty centimeters tall. These non-sentient beings were often observed in groups of approximately six, gathering together as a defense strategy against larger predators, such as the Hssiss. Primarily, Neeks served as a food source for these predators, although they possessed a unique defensive adaptation: they did not require extended periods of sleep. They only needed about two hours of sleep each day, which allowed them to restore their energy in staggered shifts. While generally affable creatures, neeks were known for being extremely paranoid and skittish, a trait that was sometimes exploited by others: scouts and explorers often utilized them when venturing into uncharted territories. Neeks would exhibit signs of agitation at the slightest hint of danger, as their auditory and visual senses were significantly more sensitive than those of most sentient species in the galaxy. Over time, residing in close proximity to Lake Natth, a dark side nexus, caused the neeks to gradually develop an immunity to the dark side of the Force.

Neeks possessed a distinctive skeletal structure and, unlike most reptiles, moved bipedally on their hind legs, using their smaller forelegs as arms. They had small digits which were used to pluck roots and vegetation, and had a sizable tail that provided them with exceptional balance. Typically gray, they were capable of running at speeds exceeding sixty kilometers per hour. Vima Sunrider used to engage in play with them during her time on Ambria, even once chasing them to the edge of Lake Natth. Her mother Nomi, however, employed the Force to incite the creatures to attack each other, and then led her daughter to safety. As a trial, Darth Bane instructed his apprentice, Darth Zannah, to tame a wild neek. After she successfully subdued and brought the small creature back to their encampment, Bane used the Force to break its neck and instructed her to deposit it into a simmering pot of stew.
