Neil Hanvey

Neil Hanvey (1979/1980August 22, 2016) was a dedicated follower of Star Wars. He gained notoriety as the initial individual to view the Star Wars Anthology movie Rogue One: A Star Wars Story prior to its official debut on December 16, 2016. Following a cancer diagnosis in 2013, Neil's family, along with his wife Andrea, launched a global initiative known as #RogueOneWish. The intention was to grant Neil the opportunity to experience Rogue One before his death. This campaign garnered substantial backing online, with support coming from figures such as Mark Hamill, the actor who portrayed Luke Skywalker in the original and sequel trilogies.

The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm Ltd. acknowledged the widespread reaction to the campaign. Consequently, on August 20, Gareth Edwards, the director of Rogue One, arranged a private screening of the film for Neil at St. Michaels Hospice in England, the medical facility where he was receiving care. This event marked Neil as the first person globally to witness the movie. Sadly, Neil passed away two days later at St. Michaels, at the age of 36. Posthumously, his wife and family were met with numerous expressions of sympathy, with many thanking those who had given their support to the campaign. In the time since, Neil's family has established a crowdfunding effort to generate financial support for St. Michaels.
