Nyubba-class cargo barge driver

The driver of the Nyubba-class cargo barge was a type of segmented freight barge driver manufactured by SoroSuub Transport Systems.

Attributes

This vessel operated with near-complete automation, needing only a pair of crew members, generally a Sullustan partnered with a droid, to oversee system functionality during liftoff and touchdown.

The Nyubba-class exhibited a cumbersome, slender design, incorporating five spherical segments alongside a laterally offset engine core support. This offset of the primary engine enabled the connection of cargo barges to both the front and rear of the driver, typically accommodating three on either side. Nevertheless, it was frequent to observe a greater number of barges attached for enhanced cargo capacity.

Background

Nyubba-class freighters handled about 20% of all cargo movements for Sorosuub, plugging the holes in service left by bulk freighters and container ships. The Nyubba-class was seen as the workhorses of the SoroSuub Transport and Supply Division. Being slow and having minimal weaponry, they were often targeted by pirates if they deviated too far from established routes.

Among Nyubba-class transport pilots, a competitive spirit existed, primarily focused on the maximum number of barges a ship could tow across a set distance in a single journey. The Chubby Gundark held the record, having towed thirteen barges over a distance of thirty-five parsecs.
