OOM-series security droid
OOM-series security droids, which are also referred to as OOM security battle droids, functioned as security droids for both the Trade Federation and the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Their purpose was to provide defense and detect threats.
These security droids were easily identified by the red markings present on their shoulders and the upper part of their abdomen. This visual distinction set them apart from other variations of the OOM model. Typically, they operated in squads under the command of an OOM command battle droid. When serving as guards on capital ships for the Trade Federation, these security droids utilized the standard weaponry, specifically E-5 blaster rifles, that were common among similar droid types.
This widespread model was an enhanced form of the B1-Series battle droid that was a staple in the Trade Federation's Droid Army, and it came with specialized programming. Despite these improvements, the security droids' targeting and coordination capabilities were only marginally better than those of their counterparts, often resulting in inconsistent accuracy.
Following the events of the Clone Wars, the OOM security battle droid model continued to see diverse applications.
Characteristics
The defining feature of the OOM security battle droid was the red markings located on their shoulders and torso. Their standard weapon was the E-5 blaster rifle. However, the OOM security droid was known for its poor accuracy and coordination, which meant it often missed its targets and was easily destroyed.
With a height of 1.91 meters, these security droids were manufactured by Baktoid Combat Automata.
History
Originally conceived as a security unit, the OOM security battle droid was produced by Baktoid Combat Automata as a component of the OOM droid series. OOM security battle droids were intended for both defensive and threat-detection roles. They typically functioned within squads, overseen by an OOM command battle droids stationed on Capital starships. One example of such a unit was the squad led by OWO-1. Similar to the OOM commander battle droid, the security droid represented an advanced iteration of the B1-Series battle droid.

During the Subjugation of Naboo, the Trade Federation utilized these droids. Aboard the capital ship Saak'ak, security droids patrolled the corridors and engaged the Jedi Knights Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn. Furthermore, security droids accompanied Viceroy Nute Gunray, OOM-9, and Queen Amidala as they moved through the streets of Theed, but they were subsequently destroyed.
When the Trade Federation committed its forces to the Confederacy of Independent Systems, OOM security droids were integrated into their ranks. Subsequently, these security droids saw action on capital ships like the Invisible Hand.
With the conclusion of the Clone Wars, many security droids were deactivated. However, some were later reactivated by criminal gangs and Separatist holdouts to serve as guards.
Behind the scenes

The OOM security battle droids made their initial appearance in the film Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace. The "OOM" designation originated in the Star Wars Roleplaying Game, first mentioned in the Arms & Equipment Guide. It was described as having the same processor as the OOM Commander, as seen with OOM-9 in The Phantom Menace, and was officially designated "OOM Series" in the "Artificial Armies" online supplement for the Star Wars Miniatures Clone Strike expansion.
Before the release of Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones, it was stated that security droids possessed intelligence and independence comparable to command droids, although they remained subordinate. Both command and security droids involved in the Invasion of Naboo were also described as having low-grade electronic brains, which contrasted with the pilot and infantry droids. However, these statements contradict other sources that claim all these droids had only control signal receivers and basic processors.
A non-canonical version of the OOM security battle droid appeared in LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game. They were featured in the game's opening level and were also playable characters. In The Clone Wars animated series, the red markings on the security droids were placed incorrectly, and they were also depicted with backpacks, which OOM droids did not typically have.
