Within the current Star Wars canon, the Outer Core received a mention in the reference publication Star Wars: The Visual Encyclopedia, released in 2016. This designation initially appeared within the Star Wars Legends timeline, debuting in the 2008 novel titled Coruscant Nights I: Jedi Twilight, authored by Michael Reaves.
