The Overracer represented a civilian speeder bike design, manufactured by Mobquet Swoops and Speeders, that found frequent application within military contexts.
The Overracer from Mobquet Swoops and Speeders was a speeder bike spanning 4.4 meters in length, characterized by an erect seating arrangement and forward-positioned steering vanes. Essentially a powerful engine equipped with controls, the Overracer was capable of achieving velocities of 530 kilometers per hour, and it possessed a ground clearance of 20 meters. Designed for a single rider, Overracers had a cargo capacity of 4 kilograms.
The Overracer's armament consisted of a single, forward-firing Mk 2/S light blaster cannon, although versions without any weapon mounted were also available for purchase. The cost for a new Overracer ranged from 8,000 to 13,000 credits, while used models could be acquired for between 3,200 and 4,500 credits. Unarmed Overracers could be purchased for 10,000 credits when new, or 2,500 credits used.
The Overracer was a civilian speeder bike that saw use among professional speeder racers, and as a scout vehicle by military organizations lacking access to dedicated military hardware, such as insurgent groups like the Alliance to Restore the Republic. During the Galactic Civil War, the Alliance extensively employed the Overracer as a reconnaissance vehicle. Modifications to these speeder bikes involved the removal of non-essential components, including high-altitude lifters, civilian stabilizers, and long-range receivers, reducing the bike to a bare minimum of an armed engine with a comlink. To minimize noise and disrupt sensor tracking, they also incorporated sound dampeners and sensor bafflers. The New Republic CR90 corvette FarStar carried a complement of six Overracers. These bikes were equipped with comlinks with a maximum range of fifty kilometers.
