The Naboo Palace Guards, also called the Nabooian Royal Guards and affectionately known as the "Pearl Hats", constituted a segment of the Royal Naboo Security Forces operating from the planet of Naboo. It was typical to find Palace Guards stationed within the Royal Palace of Theed and its surrounding areas.
The Palace Guards functioned as bodyguards for the reigning Monarch of Naboo and their royal court. Furthermore, they provided protection to key figures such as the Senator appointed from the Chommell sector's, and they were recognized for escorting this representative to and from Coruscant. In contrast to the Security Guard, this particular unit was primarily composed of committed and seasoned soldiers with prior combat experience in locations beyond their home planet. A significant number of Palace Guards had previously collaborated with the Sector Rangers or diverse planetary militias located in the Outer Rim Territories.
These troops were renowned for their unwavering devotion to those under their protection. Despite their relatively small size, they formed a critical component of the Royal Security Forces. In the year 32 BBY, the Palace Guard consisted of one hundred and fifty soldiers. On average, they typically worked twenty standard hours per week and maintained their positions within the unit for a period of five to ten years each. Although their training did not quite measure up to galactic standards, the Palace Guards compensated through their intense dedication to their assigned duties.
Following the Invasion of Naboo, the Palace Guards switched to a darker shade of uniform, departing from the more vibrant colors they had previously worn prior to the Trade Federation invasion. During the Battle of Naboo, a large portion of them were killed inside the main hangar and during the outside confrontation against the droids defending the palace, who received support from some AATs.
