Alongside Biggs Darklighter and several fellow pilots, he participated in a mutiny, orchestrating their escape until Derek Klivian took command as their new commander. Subsequently, Kurin enlisted with the Alliance to Restore the Republic, where General Jan Dodonna dispatched him on a mission concerning X-Wing starfighters located at the Incom Corporation. During this perilous operation, he acted as one of the decoy pilots, ejecting from his astromech-controlled TIE fighter to remain adrift in space, awaiting rescue. Tragically, a random shot from an Imperial fighter that was passing by struck him in the head, resulting in his immediate death.
