A landing beacon, also called a portable beacon, was a meter-long piece of equipment. This device emitted signals, detectable exclusively by sensors. The signal it broadcast could reach up to 10,000 kilometers from the surface of a planet. Typically, it sent out a basic signal to designate a place for landing. However, using a datapad, it could be altered to transmit signals indicating danger or a need for help.
Its design included a pointed tip, intended for sticking it into the earth. Additionally, a tripod was included, making it possible to set it up on level, solid ground.
