The Q'nithian mimbrane, alternatively called the mimbrane organism, was a peculiar being; in essence, it functioned as a biological recording instrument. These creatures manifested as slender, off-white sheets, typically no longer than a digit of a Human. The surface of the organism absorbed ambient sounds. Furthermore, they possessed basic light-sensitive organs, enabling them to differentiate between brightness and darkness. Despite having diminutive brains, these organisms could be trained to execute simple instructions from their handlers, specifically to "replay" previously captured sounds. This attribute rendered them ideal for surreptitious recording, as their compact dimensions, in conjunction with their capabilities, facilitated their use by individuals seeking to smuggle them into private exchanges for subsequent review.
Mimbrane organisms were cultivated within expansive collective environments, with one such colony located on a moon within the Q'nithian system. This particular group thrived within the deep fractures and crevices of the planet's craggy terrain.

Chentu Chek, a veteran of twenty-three years and the Armory Master for the Bounty Hunters' Guild, regarded the mimbrane as a nearly undetectable surveillance device, although he remained uncertain as to whether the Q'nithian mimbrane should be classified as a plant or an animal. Notably, Skrillings found Q'nithian mimbranes to be a palatable food source.
The discovery of Q'nithian mimbranes on the Q'nithian moon by the Bounty Hunter's Guild prompted the organization to establish its own breeding programs for these creatures. These colonies were often situated in the basements of Guildhouses, making them readily available without charge to Guild bounty hunters.
In the year 4 ABY, a Q'nithian Aeropteryx utilized a Q'nithian mimbrane to document a conversation with the bounty hunter Dengar, during which the survival of Dengar's associate, Boba Fett, was disclosed. Subsequently, the Aeropteryx dispatched the mimbrane into a cantina, where Senni Tonnika overheard the mimbrane echoing portions of Dengar's dialogue; Senni then shared this information with her sibling, Brea. Eventually, the mimbrane reached a seating area on the opposite side of the cantina, where it was acquired by the criminals Vol Hamame and Phedroi, who listened to the recorded exchange between Dengar and the Aeropteryx.
