The radiation bomb, a lethal armament conceived by the Chiss Ascendancy, came into existence in the years preceding the Battle of Naboo.
Upon its detonation within a vessel's structure, this weapon unleashed a powerful surge of radiation. This radiation could penetrate both walls and bulkheads, rendering any unshielded entity defenseless against its effects. Irrespective of allegiance, the wave annihilated any living tissue it came into contact with. The Chiss employed these devices when the objective was to eliminate enemy forces while preserving the integrity of equipment, vehicles, buildings, or spacecraft, enabling subsequent retrieval of the target. Nevertheless, the bombs could inflict scorch damage on sensitive onboard equipment.
Kinman Doriana unwittingly deployed waves of Commander's Mitth'raw'nuruodo's seized droid starfighters carrying ten of these radiation bombs against the six Dreadnaughts constituting the hexagonal perimeter of the Outbound Flight superstructure. This action resulted in the demise of the 50,000-member crew of Outbound Flight, with the exception of 57 individuals who were confined within the superstructure's central storage core during the bombs' detonation. While Thrawn's forces had previously inflicted substantial damage on the ship, the radiation bombs themselves did not cause further harm to Outbound Flight beyond the eradication of its crew.
