Luke Skywalker is seen here in his Rebel flight suit.
Pilot fatigues, also known as Rebel flight suits, were the standard attire for Rebel pilots when they were piloting starfighters.
Garven Dreis, Luke, and Biggs Darklighter are pictured wearing pilot fatigues.
These suits were produced in a variety of colors, such as beige, green, and orange. They also featured a winter vest, similar to those used on Hoth.
Other equipment included as part of the flight suit were insulated boots, stow pockets, thermal gloves, an emergency transmitter, controls for the suit's various systems, protective eye lenses, flares, and a comlink.
The flight suit incorporated digital technology, which could be tailored to the specific starfighter, thereby improving the interface between a pilot and their newly assigned craft.
Jay Brand Racewear, now known as Jays Racewear, manufactured the base layers for the Rebel flight suits.
The orange color of the X-wing suit was intentionally chosen to evoke the "international orange" U.S. Navy flight suits that were in use from 1957 to 1969. The flight helmet's design was influenced by an experimental helmet that the military ultimately rejected. Among the additions to this base were pistol flares around the knee, reminiscent of those worn by the Luftwaffe, and webbing originally from parachute rigs.
