Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day was a commemorative occasion observed by members of the Alliance to Restore the Republic, mirroring the Republic Day celebrations of the bygone Galactic Republic. It coincided with the Empire Day festivities of the Imperial regime.

During the Galactic Civil War in 1 ABY, Princess Leia Organa Solo leveraged the holiday as a tribute to those who perished fighting for the Rebel Alliance. On this particular day, she arrived near Coronet City on Corellia aboard the Millennium Falcon, greeted by a gathering of Rebel soldiers and supporters. A fountain featuring a statue of Jedi Master Yoda was erected for the event, honoring the Jedi who bravely fought in the Clone Wars.

Protected by members of the Rebel Alliance Honor Guard, the princess expressed her gratitude to the crowd for their ongoing support, urging them to remember those lost in the conflict, even singling out some soldiers present by name. After a brief visit, she, along with Han Solo and Chewbacca, departed the planet on the Falcon. As she left, Rebel starships soared overhead as fireworks detonated in the sky.

During the Remembrance Day events, Captain Bren Derlin assigned devoted Rebels to graffiti Imperial propaganda posters throughout the city, replacing them with posters stating, "Remember Alderaan." Major Carlist Rieekan tasked Rebel traders with collecting supplies from crashed Rebel shuttles, and allowed entertainers to provide entertainment for Rebel soldiers in the Coronet cantina. Wedge Antilles also participated in the Remembrance Day activities, charging a Rebel operative with rescueing six Rebel pilots from a prison facility located within an Imperial Fortress.

Due to Coronet's pro-Rebellion sentiment, the Empire took minimal action to prevent the Remembrance Day celebrations. However, reports surfaced of Imperial soldiers shooting down individuals who defaced Imperial posters.

During the celebrations, diverse souvenirs were available for sale and distribution, encompassing paintings and posters (depicting Darth Vader, Princess Leia, etc.), models (including decorative items and space station replicas), ornamental sashes, an automated target dummy (themed after either the Rebels or the Empire), and tools such as Novaless Soni-Optics Goggles Mark V. While some items were exclusive to either Empire Day or Remembrance Day, the majority were offered during both holidays. Furthermore, a Rebel event organizer frequently stood near the Statue of Yoda in the atrium of Coronet City, selling pro-Rebel rations like Favorites of the Force and Death Star Destruction to Rebel sympathizers. However, due to the Alliance's conflict with the Empire, the organizer would refuse service to any Imperial-aligned soldiers attempting to purchase these rations.

Remembrance Day was a recurring event within the MMORPG Star Wars Galaxies. Three in-game events took place, each in June of 2008, 2009, and 2010. All players attending the celebrations received a special Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back movie poster and had the opportunity to purchase Favorites of the Force and Death Star Destruction, food items that temporarily enhanced player statistics.

Once per hour, the Millennium Falcon would land, and Princess Leia would acknowledge a Rebel-aligned player character present at the celebration. This player received a special badge and the title "Hero of Remembrance Day."

This was slightly altered in the 2009 celebration. Leia would land every 15 minutes, recognizing three players, who would then receive the title "Champion of Remembrance Day." Players also received a Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi movie poster to commemorate the sixth anniversary of Star Wars Galaxies. The 2009 celebration also featured additional quests for players. The 2010 iteration of Remembrance Day remained largely unchanged, except for the addition of new badges, a few extra rewards, and a new title, "Chosen of Remembrance Day."
