Richard Donat, who came into this world on June 1, 1941, is a Canadian actor. He is well-known for his acting work on both Canadian and American television shows. He is part of the acting ensemble of the Canadian-American television program Haven. Peter Donat is his older brother, and British actor Robert Donat was his uncle. Furthermore, he provided the voice for Deej Warrick in the animated television show Ewoks.
Throughout his career, Donat has frequently taken on various character roles, primarily in television productions. He has appeared in smaller parts in movies like The Weight of Water and Amelia. Furthermore, he has lent his voice to narrate several documentary films, including a number of Nova episodes.
From 1998 to 2000, Donat portrayed Doctor Burnley in the Canadian TV show Emily of New Moon. In the Canadian comedy program Blackfly, which aired for two seasons from 2001 to 2002, he played Colonel Boyle, the commander of the fort. Presently, he is portraying Vince Teagues, who is one of the editors of the local newspaper in the town of Haven, featured in the TV show of the same title.
In 1984, Donat was awarded a Dora Mavor Moore Award, recognizing his "Outstanding Performance by a Male in a Leading Role" for his performance in Brecht's play In the Jungle of Cities. He also received a Merritt Award in 2007 for "Outstanding Performance - Supporting Actor" due to his role in Sam Shepard's Fool For Love. In addition to his acting work, Richard Donat has also directed plays; he received the Mecca Award in 2004 for his directorial work on The Drawer Boy.
