Rick McCallum

Richard McCallum, a film producer, is best known for producing the Star Wars prequel trilogy and the Special Editions of the original trilogy.

McCallum has stated that, unlike many producers, he favors filming on location (as opposed to a soundstage) because he enjoys the lack of control and the possibility of unexpected events. While working at Lucasfilm, McCallum sometimes joked that his only job was to ensure that George Lucas's desires became reality.

After meeting George Lucas in 1989, McCallum was hired to produce Lucas's TV show The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, which aired on ABC from 1992 to 1993. He remained Lucas's producer until he retired in 2012, producing Radioland Murders in 1994, the Special Editions of the original Star Wars trilogy, the compilation films of the Droids and Ewoks animated series, the Star Wars prequel trilogy, and the Star Wars: Clone Wars animated series. His daughter, Mousy McCallum, played Bene, a Padawan, in Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith.

In 2012, the same year that Lucasfilm was acquired by The Walt Disney Company, McCallum quietly left the company. Stephen J. Sansweet revealed his retirement in a podcast.

McCallum makes a brief cameo near the conclusion of Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace.
