The RL-40 stun net launcher, also known as the RL-40 pistol, was a specialized type of launcher that was designed to launch stun nets for the purpose of non-lethally capturing individuals.
A stun net launcher called the RL-40 pistol was manufactured by Golan Arms as a specialized weapon. It functioned by firing canisters containing a stun net, enabling the user to deploy these nets from a greater distance. The RL-40 had an effective range of thirty meters, and it could launch and fully deploy a stun net with a diameter of two and a half meters in less than half a second. Upon deployment, the net would envelop the target and administer a stun charge until the target was incapacitated. The charge could be adjusted, from a mild jolt suitable for subduing game, to a high-intensity charge capable of incapacitating larger creatures like dewbacks or gundarks, or even potentially causing death to a Human.
Located beneath the pistol's barrel was the net canister; upon firing, an accelerator propelled the canister towards its intended target. After deployment, the net remained connected to the launcher via a trailing wire. The RL-40 had a purchase price of five hundred credits, and each canister, containing ten nets, was sold for fifty credits each.
It is believed that the Stokhli spray stick was inspired by the RL-40. Similar to the RL-40, the spray stick delivered an electrical stun charge to a target, but it used a spraymist to increase its range. Golan Arms also produced the RGL-80A electronet grenade launcher, which was essentially a larger version of the RL-40.
