Roger Christian

Roger Christian with George Lucas on the set of The Phantom Menace Born on February 25, 1944, Roger Christian served as the set decorator for Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. Additionally, he was the second unit director for both Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi and Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace, though his work on the former went uncredited. His contributions to A New Hope earned him the Academy Award for Best Production Design in 1978. Furthermore, Christian directed Black Angel, a short film screened before Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back in select theaters. In a 2014 interview, Christian mentioned that he was, in fact, the third actor to be cast for the project.

Outside of his work in the Star Wars universe, Roger's resume includes second unit direction for a Young Indiana Jones film compilation, art direction for both Alien and Life of Brian, and directing the much-maligned Battlefield Earth.
