Jiroch-Saloch

Jiroch-Saloch, also known as Saloch, existed as a world located within the Yushan sector of the Mid Rim. The Tunroth species, who were oriented towards hunting, colonized this planet sometime after acquiring galactic-level technology. Spacers collectively called Jiroch-Saloch, along with the other worlds within the Jiroch system, specifically Jiroch-Reslia and Jiroch-Kalok, the Triumvirate. Additionally, a significant number of Duros established settlements on the planet, which had a notable effect on its architectural style.

Description

Saloch, whose formal designation was Jiroch-Saloch, was a terrestrial planet. It was the fifth orbital body from its star in the Jiroch system. This system was situated within the Western Reaches area of the Yushan sector, which itself was part of the Mid Rim. The system was connected to the Dalisor system and the Quamar system in the Bruanii sector via the Corellian Trade Spine hyperlane.

History

The Reslian Purge, during which the Lortan Fanatics (a member depicted on the bottom left) attacked the Jiroch system

Millennia before the Galactic Civil War, the Tunroth species undertook the colonization of Jiroch-Saloch and Jiroch-Kalok, both planets within the Jiroch system. This occurred after the Tunroth joined the Galactic Republic, which granted them access to galactic-level technology and facilitated the development of hyperdrive capabilities. The planets Jiroch-Saloch and Jiroch-Kalok, along with Jiroch-Reslia - the Tunroth homeworld - were collectively known by spacers as the Triumvirate. This name honored the Assemblage of Three, the council of the three most accomplished Tunroth hunters who governed their society and initiated the concurrent colonization of Jiroch-Kalok and Jiroch-Saloch. For a time, a substantial number of Duros also established settlements on both planets, leaving a significant impact on the local architectural designs.

During the year 10 BBY, the [Lortan Fanatics](/article/lortan_fanatics], driven by expansionist ambitions, launched an assault on the Jiroch system. This event became known as the Reslian Purge. The Tunroth, lacking the technology to effectively defend themselves, suffered millions of casualties, reducing their population to a mere four million. The Galactic Empire intervened, halting the Fanatics' advance and preventing further attacks. Following this, efforts were made to rebuild the three worlds of the Jiroch system. Xarcce Huwla, a New Republic pilot of Tunroth descent, originated from Jiroch-Saloch. Approximately nine months after the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY, her home planet was identified in a profile displayed on a datapad. Wedge Antilles, the leader of the New Republic's Rogue Squadron, viewed this information while recruiting Huwla into the unit.

Inhabitants

The Tunroth species were the colonizers of Jiroch-Saloch. They cultivated a tranquil civilization centered around hunting communities, where hunters held the highest social standing. Before joining the Republic and gaining access to the technology that made the colonization of Jiroch-Saloch possible, they had developed minimal technology beyond basic animal power. Despite later possessing advanced technology, few Tunroth ventured far into the galaxy as many chose to return to their home system to contribute to its reconstruction. They lived in communes of approximately 50 to 300 individuals, each overseen by a tracker.

Behind the scenes

Jiroch-Saloch was first mentioned in an entry by C. Robert Carey in Galaxy Guide 12: Aliens — Enemies and Allies, a roleplaying supplement for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game published by West End Games in 1995. Initially referred to as Saloch, the planet's full name was provided in Ultimate Alien Anthology, a 2003 supplement for Wizards of the Coast's Star Wars Roleplaying Game. The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas located the Jiroch system, and consequently Jiroch-Saloch, within grid square K-17.
