She was affiliated with the Cloud City Miner's Guild, an organization that operated under the authority of Lando Calrissian, the Baron Administrator of Cloud City. The Miner's Guild was a local entity and not connected to the galaxy-wide Mining Guild, as the Cloud City mining operation was not significant enough to warrant their attention. Kebyc's role was that of a senior accountant for the guild, and her responsibilities encompassed the administration of the annual dues paid by the guild's members.
Kebyc was dedicated to eliminating corruption among her fellow Miner's Guild members. Working alongside Gir Endac of the Bespin Wing Guard, she successfully identified and exposed several corrupt officials within the guild.
In 3 ABY, Kebyc was present in a corridor within Cloud City, engaged in conversation with other residents. At that time, Calrissian was escorting Han Solo, Princess Leia Organa, and Chewbacca—representatives of the Alliance to Restore the Republic—past her, on their way to a meeting where Calrissian would hand them over to Darth Vader, the Dark Lord of the Galactic Empire. This handover was an attempt by Calrissian to prevent further Imperial interference in Cloud City's operations. Despite this, Imperial forces invaded and occupied Cloud City, violating the agreement with Vader. In response, Calrissian ordered the evacuation of all the city's inhabitants.
Samara Kebyc made her initial appearance as an uncredited extra in the 1980 film Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back, where she is seen in a discussion as Lando Calrissian, Han Solo, Princess Leia, and Chewbacca pass by. Her surname and a detailed backstory were later provided in the Cloud City Limited expansion set of the Decipher Star Wars Customizable Card Game, released in November 1997. Her full name was first revealed in the Rogues Gallery section of Star Wars Insider 148 on March 11, 2014.
